Faith

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1).  For a believer, the only means to please God is by Faith. It is through faith Enoch was taken up to God without seeing death. He pleased God by being steadfast in his faith. His name is found in the list of warriors of faith in Heb. – Chap. 11.

“To execute judgement upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.“  (Jude 1:15).  No power on earth could deviate Enoch from his faith. For a believer who lives by faith, any calamities or misfortunes will flee from him. By faith, he can see the Red Sea being divided, the river Jordan will go dry and the walls of Jericho would shatter.

But without faith, it is impossible to please God for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.  God is not pleased with our offering or tithe or by our good activities. The only offering that is pleasing to God is a life founded on faith. The moment a believer starts trusting on God, he begins following God and His words. The Psalmist rightly says, “Because the Lord is at my right hand, I shall not be moved” (Pslams 16:8). In the same way, Enoch though he was born sinful, he walked with God and pleased God through his faith.

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed”? (Amos 3:3) A sinful man and a holy God cannot go together. Unless they are one in their thoughts, aims activities, they cannot be together. Enoch offered daily sacrifices of faith to God and reconciled with God. When two have oneness in thought, mind and deed they become bosom friends. Enoch found a dearly beloved friend in God. In times of family burden, fatigue and distress, God walked with him delivered him from his distress and carried him on His Shoulders. God was his faithful friend. Enoch rejoiced in the fellowship of God and God was also pleased with him. That’s why God took Enoch away from this earth and Enoch did not see death. Thus Enoch escaped the judgement of God on people through deluge.  It is heart-rending to separate two bosom friends. I can visualize the conversation between God and Enoch. Before Enoch was translated, God must have told Enoch, “All these three hundred years, I had been walking with you, talking with you ona this earth, and now I want you to come and live with me in my holy abode”.  What a blissful fellowship! The love of God is so sure that He wants us to be with Him eternally. God’s love is the love that’s true. All the toil that Enoch had gone through on this earth had come to an end and now he is at rest with God the Father.

Therefore, brethren, let us decide today to lead a life founded on faith on God like Enoch. We are all compassed about with so great a cloud witnesses. So let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking into Jesus the author and finisher of our faith”. (Heb. 12:1,2)
